My review:

The 1967 film stars Paul Newman as the main protagonist, a rebel. The film is about how a person goes against the current and cannot be "subdued". He finds support among those who know what it is like to be "submissive to the system." The breadth of his spirit touches the hearts of the poor in spirit and broken people. No one can remain indifferent to Luke. He is loved and hated, admired and despised – that's what it means to be in the spotlight and never play to the audience.

Oscar"I was just killing time," he says when asked why, after serving as a sergeant in the army, he returned from service as a regular private.

The mystery of his personality is slightly revealed when he meets his sickly mother, and she confesses to him that she did not love his younger brother. Having given all her love to her eldest son, she regrets somewhat that she did not live to see grandchildren from him.

In reality, he is seeking answers. Answers to eternal questions: Is there ultimate justice? Does God exist? The frivolity and mockery of higher powers at the beginning of the film gives way to his "dialogue" with the creator in the church, just before his death.

The huge hidden meaning provides much food for thought, and such conclusions suggest themselves: "to find oneself at the cost of life?","to be true to oneself no matter what - then one can find the meaning of life", "it is not life itself that fills itself with meaning, but we ourselves."
