It is known that human organs have a certain resource of endurance, which can be quickly exhausted if the body is subjected to constant and thoughtless stress. A recent study by Spanish scientists has shown that one such organ, which can be subject to wear, is the brain. The harmful effect is not caused by excessive physical activity, but by the influence of alcohol – in particular, beer.
Researchers from the Spanish University of Santiago de Compostela found that the brains of people prone to "beer alcoholism" work 20% more strained than everyone else's. According to the results of the study, published in the British «The Daily Mail», it takes only three glasses of beer a week to make a person's nervous system work under increased stress when solving logical tasks. Thus, the brain of a person who regularly drinks alcohol works continuously throughout the day, practically wearing itself out.
The essence of the experiments conducted by the scientists was as follows - the volunteers from the students were divided into two groups. The first group did not drink alcohol at all, and people from the other group consumed alcoholic beverages every few days. Throughout the entire experiment period, researchers measured the brain activity of the students. In the end, the following results were obtained - in people who do not drink regularly, the brain works with a tension of 18 microvolts, and for those who like to drink - 20 microvolts. However, for seasoned "drinkers," the peak activity tension in the nervous system reaches 22 microvolts in just a couple of years.
Of course, based on this information, one cannot make far-reaching conclusions, but it is enough to assume with a high degree of confidence that the brain of alcoholics ages faster than the brain of those who drink very rarely or do not consume alcohol at all. In addition, an important result of the study is the information that it is not necessary to drink strong alcohol to start the process of wearing out the most important organ - just a few glasses of beer are enough.
Results of another study
It is worth noting that this study is not the first to confirm the negative impact of beer on the human body. Previously, scientists from the Medical School at the University of Indiana, USA, studying the effects of various alcoholic beverages on humans, concluded that the most dangerous among them is beer. The fact is that when consuming hops, the hormone dopamine, also known as the pleasure hormone, is released in the body. It is precisely because of this that a rapid addiction to this alcoholic beverage occurs.
In connection with the above information, researchers are concerned that many people do not perceive beer as a serious alcoholic drink due to the low percentage of alcohol in its base. Such a misconception leads to the growth of "beer alcoholism," which can lead to much more negative consequences than the occasional consumption of strong alcoholic beverages. At the same time, various low-alcohol cocktails have the same negative impact on the human body.
Taking into account all of the above, one can confidently say that alcohol should not be abused in any of its forms, in order not to harm one's own valuable health.
