- special gloves used in boxing to prevent injuries from blows, appeared in the rules of competitions in 1895 in England. Boxing gloves are used during competitions, training and for exercises on sports equipment. The weight of the gloves is measured in ounces (1 ounce - 29.86 grams). In competitions, 8 oz. gloves are used for athletes weighing up to and including 67 kg and 10 oz. gloves for athletes heavier than 67 kg. Boxing gloves are made of light and flexible leather, with a layer of horsehair between the leather surface and the lining. The large part of the glove accommodates 4 fingers of the hand and wrist, the thumb is placed in a separate part. The striking surface of boxing gloves must be marked with a clearly distinguishable color, usually white. The leather surface cannot weigh more than half of the total weight of the glove. On the inner palm of each glove there is a soft lanyard to tighten it, with the knot tied at the beginning of the thumb at the back of the wrist.
