It is one of the four major international professional boxing organizations, founded in 1963 by the national boxing organizations of 11 nations: Argentina, Brazil, Chile, France, Great Britain, Mexico, Panama, Peru, the Philippines, the USA and Venezuela. At the moment it is headed by Jose Suleiman. In 1990, the Eastern European Boxing Bureau (EEBB) became a part of the WBC, which later, in 1993, was reorganized into the CIS and Slavic Countries Bureau.
