– (abbreviation for “self-defense without weapons”) is a type of sport wrestling that is international and originated in the USSR in the late 1930s. According to the rules of Sambo, throws, joint locks, and holds with arbitrary grabs to any part of the body and clothing (the samboist's jacket) are allowed. To win cleanly, a clean throw or joint lock must be executed, after which the opponent must acknowledge defeat.
