Notes of a former smoker
-
It's been almost two years.
26.01.2014
the point: I quit smoking on 11/05/2012 (I wrote about it below), and it's been almost 2 years since then
commentary: For so long I didn't write anything - I was waiting for the checkpoints: 0.5 years, 1 year. Time began to go very differently, life became fuller. There were so many events that it seemed like 5 years, not 21 months had passed. And how many problems I solved)...
No, no illusions now - I'm afraid to even think about smoking lightly, to "be on my guard" all the time. Even after reading the book Allen Carr's Easy Way To Stop Smoking, it was really easy for me to stop doing it. But it clearly says that once you start again after a long and successful period without cigarettes, the probability to quit again and forever is almost zero, because you stop believing in yourself (because you haven't smoked for N years and you've lost it).
Since then I've been trying hard to get my dad to read this book and quit too. After all, I've been trying to read it for 4 years, both in audio format and in book format...
I realize now that in my subcortex I was afraid that I would have to stop smoking eventually, so I didn't finish the book, or I just ignored it.

Don't mess around with it
31.07.2012
the point: When you quit smoking, there's no guarantee that you won't start again
comment: Here, it's been 2 years since I smoked again, on New Year's Day 2010. So dumb and simple... "what a new year without cigarettes"... I mean, being a non-smoker for half a year doesn't mean I'm done with smoking forever....
Well today I quit smoking again :)....
I really wanted to do it - but still have not passed the milestones of half a year and a year.

I lost six kilos in six months
12.11.2010
the point: After getting into the habit, after about 6 months, I lost 6 pounds, whereas I used to weigh 82 kg and later became 76 kg.
comment: smoking suppresses appetite, that is why some girls are afraid to quit smoking "not to get fat"in fact, the truth is that when you stop smoking you regain a healthy appetite.

How inspiring it is to kill time after all
04.08.2010
the point: Smoking is an awesome way to kill time, and a beautiful one at that!
comment: ... I haven't smoked for 3,5 months now, but I have the urge sometimes... very

I dreamt I was smoking again
18.06.2010
the point: Wow... In the dream I was kicking myself for smoking 1 cigarette... even though I had quit for the 3rd month
the point
comment: my cousin said that when he quit smoking he dreamt about smoking in his sleep for another 6 months... and I didn't think about quitting at the time. Now I'm starting to realize he wasn't kidding.

What are cigarettes?
12.06.2010
the point: It is NOT ONLY sacrificed health, for every cigarette + money spent on each pack of cigarettes
comment: In fact, health and money spent on cigarettes are just the tip of the iceberg. A much, much larger amount of MONEY and TIME smokers spend on events that lead up to smoking and make it more "varied and entertaining."
In addition, the smoker acquires a certain pattern of behavior - living to smoke and smoking to live.
1. Coffee with a cigarette - not just coffee at home, but in every vending machine that a smoker walks by. Usually it is not less than 3 UAH for 1 coffee.
. 2. Coffee with a cigarette and a conversation with a friend - this was generally my favorite pastime. Drinking 1-2 cups of coffee or more... usually on the street, in a coffee machine or kiosk at the very least, and in a coffee shop or coffee shop at the most.
3. Cinema - going to the cinema, it is desirable that before the show in the building of the theater itself was a cafe where smoking is allowed.... all this is accompanied by drinking coffee... or beer.
. 4. Beer - when we drink beer... we relax a little... and we of course... want to...? You guessed it! to smoke!!! Exactly. Beer under the driveway in the evening with friends and cigarettes (don't confuse the two:), beers in cafes and pubs with cigarettes... cocktails with cigarettes... whatever.
5. Cigarette in the morning - you're right... it's a repeat, it's a cigarette with coffee. Like I wake up I have to not eat like a normal person. All I have to do is drink Coffee and smoke... or rather smoke, and drink coffee if possible.
6. The bedtime cigarette is a ritual cigarette, without it we cannot sleep. Not collect our thoughts before going to bed...
7. Cigarette after sex is also a ritual cigarette, without it simply without it, life just doesn't make sense.
8. Just a cigarette is a cigarette to walk to the bus stop, go to the store, or just go out on the balcony, walk with friends... whatever... and what did you think...? -
Every day is like a continuation... not as a separate passage
07.06.2010
the point: When you wake up, you know what day it is and what you did yesterday.
comment: when I smoked, it was worth nothing to fall out of reality for 3 days... and the line "and I thought it was Wednesday" was something to be proud of (even though today is Sunday).
Quitting smoking is easy, the main thing is not to be afraid to look this problem in the eye, and to understand that without solving it a normal life is not possible.
